The Bay Bed Company started in Morecambe in 2010 with a simple idea: sell good quality beds and mattresses, give honest advice and make buying a new bed a more straightforward experience.
More than 16 years later, that's still what we're about.
We're an independent, family-run business with showrooms in Morecambe and Lancaster, and we believe there's still a place for proper bed shops where you can take your time, try things for yourself and talk to people who know what they're talking about.
We don't believe buying a mattress should be complicated. And we certainly don't believe you should have to buy one without trying it first.
We don't sell everything. We choose carefully.
You can find thousands of mattresses online, often with very little opportunity to understand what you're actually buying.
That's not how we work.
Rather than filling our showrooms with hundreds of similar mattresses, we carefully select the ranges we believe are worth offering.
That means everything from good-value everyday mattresses through to some of the finest British-made beds and mattresses available. We stock different spring systems, comfort levels, materials and price points because we know that one mattress isn't right for everyone.
Our job isn't to sell you the most expensive mattress we have.
It's to understand what you're looking for and help you find something that feels right, suits the way you sleep and makes sense for your budget.
Try before you buy
This is one of the biggest advantages of buying from an independent, local, family run business.
You can come in and try a mattress. Try another one. Compare them. Ask questions. Change your mind. And take your time.
We can explain the differences between pocket springs, fillings, comfort levels and construction in plain English, without trying to blind you with technical jargon.
And if we don't think a particular mattress is right for you, we'll tell you.
We'd rather help you choose the right mattress than sell you the wrong one.
We've taken the time to visit our manufacturers.
Over the years we've developed our knowledge by doing more than simply selling beds.
We've visited many of the British manufacturers we work with, including Harrison Spinks in Yorkshire and Burgess Beds here in Lancashire, and seen first-hand how their mattresses are designed and made.
We've also built long-standing relationships with some of Britain's best-known bed manufacturers, including Harrison Spinks, Vispring, Burgess, Relyon, Sleepeezee, Sweet Dreams, Wheatcroft, Espoir and Romantica.
Those relationships matter to us. They mean we're able to offer products from manufacturers whose quality and craftsmanship we genuinely believe in, rather than simply choosing products because they're easy to sell.
A wider choice in store
Not everything we sell is listed on our website.
Alongside our online collection, we have in-store exclusive mattresses and divan beds in both our Lancaster and Morecambe showrooms, giving you a much wider choice when you visit us.
This is particularly important if you're looking for something at a particular price point or simply want to compare a few different options before making a decision.
The showroom is still the best place to see what we have to offer.
Good value doesn't have to mean cheap
We're not trying to be the cheapest bed shop.
We believe there's a big difference between a cheap bed and a well-made bed at a good price.
Our collection includes genuinely affordable mattresses and complete divan bed sets, alongside premium British-made beds and luxury handcrafted mattresses. The important thing to us is that whatever your budget, you should be able to find something that's well made and represents good value.
We also offer free local delivery and free removal and recycling of your old bed or mattress, helping to make the whole process as straightforward as possible.

We're still a relatively small independent business, and that's something we're proud of. It means we can take the time to listen, give proper advice and treat every customer as an individual.
