What is the best mattress for side sleepers?
That is a great question, and one we are asked regularly at our bed and mattress stores in Morecambe and Lancaster.
The good news is that there are currently some excellent mattresses available for side sleepers. Furthermore, it doesn't have to cost a fortune to find an option that can significantly improve your sleeping experience.

In our experience, pocket springs are the gold standard for support. These individually wrapped springs work independently, allowing heavier areas like your hips and shoulders to dip further into the mattress. This ensures proper spinal alignment and a healthy sleeping posture.
The springs provide the foundation of your support, but the ideal firmness and spring count are matters of personal preference. There is truly no substitute for visiting a showroom to try different options, as most people can quickly identify what feels best for them once they test a few models.
Beyond support, the other critical factor is comfort, which is determined by the materials and depth of the "top layer." For example, a mattress could have 3,000 pocket springs, but if it only features a thin 2cm layer of polyester on top, it likely won't provide the comfort needed, especially for side sleepers.
To simplify your choices as a side sleeper, we recommend either generous layers of natural fillings—such as lambswool, cashmere, or flax linen—or high-quality memory foam, gel, or natural latex.
While both options are excellent, "hybrid" mattresses (pocket springs combined with memory foam or gel) are often more affordable than those with natural fibers, effectively replicating that premium feel at a lower price point. For instance, in our showrooms, the Sleepeezee 'Jessica' range is a very popular hybrid choice. It features varying pocket spring counts paired with breathable platinum fibers and a deep layer of pressure-relieving dual gel foam.

We are pleased to also showcase our collection of traditional pocket-sprung mattresses featuring high-quality natural fibers. Our selection includes world-renowned luxury brands such as Vispring and the award-winning, Leeds-based Harrison Spinks.
Additionally, we offer bespoke luxury options from Lancashire-based Burgess, as well as Somerset-based Relyon, both of whom are esteemed for their expertise in traditional mattress manufacturing.

In terms of affordable comfort we have exclusive, in store only ranges of both hybrid and traditional, natural fibre mattresses from Yorkshire based Wheatcroft and Lancashire based Sweet Dreams. We offer a variety of solutions across all price ranges specifically designed for side sleepers. If you are looking to improve your sleep quality, you are more than welcome to visit our Morecambe or Lancaster stores to explore our range.
